Inspired by medieval art, impressionism, surrealism, contemporary art, photography, and the fantastical glam rock band KISS, Robert Hernandez has made his distinct mark as one of the most revered in the tattoo arena. Using pastels as his primary medium, Robert achieves impressive realism in his original art, which tends to lean towards dark and "sinister" themes. Robert believes that anything that can be drawn or painted can also be tattooed, and he has brilliantly shown this over his 15+ years of tattooing.
Born in Poland to a family of Spanish background, Robert started his passion for drawing at four years old. He took inspiration from his great grandfather, who frequently drew caricatures in old notebooks. Later, after attending art school, Robert moved to Madrid, where he began tattooing at Madrid's first tattoo studio, Mao y Cathy. During his time there he met top tattoo artists that passed through, and gained valuable experience as a tattoo artist. In 2000, Robert Hernandez opened his own tattoo studio in Madrid, Vittamin Tattoo, where he continues to turn heads with his masterful, imaginative, and life-like portrait tattoos.
